In conjunction with Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture, the museum will host Hewaar Conference: Meaning and Presentation in the Arts of Islamic Culture conference March 15–16. The conference will examine ways of looking at Islamic art―both within art historical and cultural contexts―with papers exploring a wide range of media including painting, calligraphy, and textiles. The conference will also address the cross-cultural dialogue in Islamic art and the ways in which diverse influences have informed Muslim culture. The conference will end with a panel discussion that will raise pertinent questions and timely issues related to the presentation and meaning of the arts of Islamic culture.
